new yarn

Some pictures of the yarn I randomly bought this month ...

First, some super soft sirdar snuggly baby bamboo. No idea what I'm going to make with it, but how can you pass up yarn that's called "snuggly"? Maybe a lacy scarf.Next, I succumbed to all the pretty yarns on etsy, and bought a skein of handspun, hand dyed bamboo from Spinning Wheel Studio. So pretty! And the colorway is named "Bollywood", I think that's what got me. But it's only 130 yards, it looks like it's about a DK weight, so I'm thinking a shawlette, or something? Don't know.
But now, I have all this bamboo and no ideas!

summer socks

I finally finished a project! My stripey socks. This was my backup project, I used it while traveling, between other projects, when I needed a small project. But after 5 months I figured it was finally the time to bite the bullet and finish them up! I used Knit Picks Felici yarn, which is incredibly soft, and makes a nice lightweight sock.I used a basic toe up sock pattern, using short rows for both the toe and heel. I really like doing socks toe up - it worked well with the Felici, because I was able to use almost an entire ball for each sock, I just kept going until there was no more!

I've been in a bit of a knitting lull. I haven't touched my whisper cardigan in a while, it drove me so crazy that I didn't want to do it anymore, so I'm giving it a break. I started my FLS, and it's going well but fairly slowly so far. Soon, I'll have to start some mittens for T (my one non-me project this year) and then ... don't know yet. I bought a whole bunch of new yarn with no projects in mind (a first for me!) so I've got to think of something to do with it...

the first furnace of the season :(

So it's been raining, raining, raining. And cold. This has prompted me to pull out the wool I bought for the February lady sweater and get started so that maybe I'll have a new sweater in time for fall (or maybe winter). I didn't start it at the beginning of the summer as it was too hot to knit with wool. But now it's cold again and worsted weight wool knitting seems like fun again!

I'm not motivated to work on my whisper cardigan. Although I love the yarn and love the fabric it is making, I just can't see it yet and am not convinced it is going to look good. Plus, it's moving very slowly due to the modified knitting I am doing to avoid ladders.

I had an idea the other day. I want to make Owls this fall. I intended to buy some grey wool for it. However, I remembered my super ugly grey cardigan that I will never finish as it looks awful, even though I spent like 2 years working on it and I'm 98% done. I think I might just bite the bullet and rip it out, then I'll have a large amount of yarn to make owls with. It is a wool/acrylic blend, and I don't really like knitting with acrylic (I bought this yarn when I was still a novice knitter and didn't know what I liked) but I think Owls would be a good sweater to use this yarn. It would be less scratchy than pure wool, and for a pullover I think that might be nice. It would be heartbreaking to pull it all out (all that cable work!!) but at the same time, I hate the sweater. I would never wear it in a million years, and really, that is just a waste.

I think I'll try and finish the FLS before I make any rash moves though, so it may be a while. Waiting for my fall IK issue, but I doubt I'll have time to make anything from it right away. I'm still working on Spring - haven't made it to summer yet! Fall will have to wait ...
