10 miles and all i got is a bruised toenail

I completed my first 10 mile race! Not quite a half marathon, but pretty darn close. I ran it in 1 hour 43 minutes, which gives me a pace of 10:21, which is fantastic for me! I came in 3,587th out of 4,840 people, so plenty of room for improvement. I did however, run on a bruised toenail, which is now threatening to fall off. But other than that, I am feeling good!

You can see a video of me crossing the finish line here.

See if you can find me - I'm wearing a dark purple shirt.

I also completed a cute little project for my nephew who we are going to see in a couple of days. He loves to play with balls, so I thought this was a super cute idea!

The pattern is called "Oh Balls!" by Marcie Nishioka, and can be downloaded for free from Ravelry. Super fast, I made each of these suckers in about 20 minutes using scraps of yarn. Hope he likes them!

After working on some disappointing, long running projects, I needed a quick and satisfying knit. So I pulled out a handspun skein of bamboo yarn I bought on a whim a while ago from etsy:It is from Spinning Wheel Studio, and I just fell in love with the colour, which is called "bollywood".

So, after picking this skein out of my stash, I had to decide what to do with it. A one skein purchase of a non-lace yarn is always a bit of a quandary. I decided to try out a cowl, since I've never made one before. I chose the Northumbria Cowl from Knitscene Fall 2010.

This is a simple lace pattern that produces a very lovely textured fabric, which worked well for the complexity of the yarn. Cute!Because it is bamboo, my gauge is a bit off, and there is not as much spring in the fabric. So this cowl is much looser than the pattern suggests. However, I think it still works - probably better with a jacket. Too bad its spring now, no need for a cowl!

I know it's way past Christmas, but I just found this photo on my camera and I wanted to post it - these were my labour of love this year - cookie love!
I finally found the perfect red food colouring and hand painted these cookies using the coloured icing. It took forever, but it was worth it!
